Every I-VOLT battery is a tubular lead-acid battery, built to be drained deep and charged again, day after day. Every light is LED, so the same battery runs it for longer.

How we worked this out
Battery size = load in watts × hours ÷ (system voltage × 0.85 for inverter losses × 0.8, so the battery is never drained flat). Inverter = load ÷ 0.8, plus 15% headroom, rounded up to a common size, and at least 900VA when a fridge is on the list, because a compressor draws several times its running power for a moment when it starts. Water pumps need more; ask us.

03Why tubular
Built to be drained and refilled, every day.
Long power cuts and solar systems drain a battery deep, then charge it again. That cycling is what wears batteries out. Tubular plates are made for it.
- 01Material held in tubesIn a flat-plate battery the active material is pasted onto a grid and sheds a little with every deep discharge. In a tubular battery it is packed into porous tubes around lead spines, so it stays in place.
- 02More cycles before it fadesLess shedding means more charge and discharge cycles before capacity drops. That is what long outages and daily solar charging need.
- 03Low maintenanceI-VOLT tubular batteries need little looking after. On models with top-up caps, add distilled water up to the MAX line now and then.
